The Bersatu Jasin Division election has been temporarily “frozen” following the recent suspension of the division’s committee, said Malacca Bersatu secretary Azzaruddin Idris.

He said the suspension would take “a period of time” and depend on the investigation carried out by the party headquarters.

“If before the election (takes place and) the section has not yet been released (from) suspension, it means that (the election) is pending and the election cannot be held.

“If before the election date on Nov 2, the suspension has been lifted, then Bersatu Jasin can hold an annual conference (and) if (the suspension is lifted) after Nov 2, it will hold a special divisional conference,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Azzarudin said, so far, his party has yet to receive the reason for the suspension of the section from Bersatu headquarters since the investigation is still ongoing.

“The reasons for the suspension, we (at the state level) still don’t know, and I can’t comment because we don’t know why (Bersatu Division Jasin was suspended) but it is in the process of investigation. Once the investigations are completed by (Supreme Leadership Council), the suspension can be withdrawn), that’s normal,” he said.

Previously, a letter dated Oct 14 signed by Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin went viral, announcing the suspension of the Jasin Division Bersatu Committee.

The letter informs that following the suspension, the management and administration of Bersatu Division Jasin will be taken over by the Supreme Leadership Council in accordance with Clause 11.2 of the Bersatu Constitution.
